Re: Budget Breakdown

Firemanjerm - The only substantial cost savings our City saw was from sick use dropping. Our Division Chief told me it was substantial but I was never able to get an exact number. I will look into...

Re: FLSA Stuff

I don't believe FLSA cares about shift work or not. Their definition pertains to fire protection activities which would be the same for the kelly and 48/96. Here is the website for the legal...

Re: FLSA Stuff

What is your FLSA work period now? Everything should remain the same as long as you change to a multiple of 6 for the 48/96 (12,18,or 24)

Also, here is a post with the FLSA work period maximums...

Re: Vehicle Accident Rates

The only credible report that I have seen was conducted by West Metro Fire in Colorado. They contracted with St. Anthony's Hospital and conducted a study on 48-96. Here are two links... one is an...

Re: 48/96 Cost Savings

I don't have any hard facts for you also. However, per our DC we did had a big reduction in sick time. Also, as a staffing Captain, I noticed a big drop in Sick calls. Just the nature of the...

Re: 48-96 Pros and Cons?

The only agencies out West that I know that run a 4 platoon system is REACH Air medical and Upland Fire's Air Ambulance which has REACH as a partner. They're schedule is the same rotation as yours...

Re: San Jose Fire Dept. Schedule?

I wish you good luck as you go through the process again. We too went through a few "poison pills". It took us over 5 years because of both admin and membership issues just to get to the trial. ...

Re: 48/96 leap year adjustment?

I looked at this a little closer because my current shift is the same exact as you described (B shift for us). What I found is the holiday rotation for set date holidays repeats every 8 years (2,922...

Re: San Jose Fire Dept. Schedule?

If I remember right, they did the study but never actually went to the 48/96 schedule. They were never able to get their administration to agree to a trial period. Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: 48/96 leap year adjustment?

I'm not sure there is any type of adjustment needed for pay and benefit. You are not paid per year or pay cycle but by FLSA period which is a set number of days.

We just looked at the holidays...

Re: LA Area 48/96

While this is true, you do have 60 4-days on the schedule vs 40 on the 3/4. I'm like you, I try to line up my OT's and trades so I at least have 3 days off in a row. Since we've been on the...

Re: Question about 48/96 and FLSA

Not a problem...Something else for you, I'm not sure they can delay payment of your FLSA for so long. In your current situation, you have to wait 3 28 day work periods before you receive some form...

Re: Question about 48/96 and FLSA

Dugan,

The 28 day FLSA cycle presents an interesting overtime issue with the 48-96. It actually costs the city a little bit more compared to using a 24 day cycle. For instance, you work 2 months...

Re: Question about 48/96 and FLSA

You probably won't be able to double up the Kelly days because the FLSA hours worked works out the same. I'm with Bou, the consistent days off are more than enough and coupled with taking the money...

Re: Question about 48/96 and FLSA

I have quite a bit of experience with FLSA and know way more than I want to. We have had several FLSA issues while I was an EBoard member as well as when I served on our 48-96 committee.

Here is...
