Default Bruce Cunningham, Santa Clara County Fire and the California Fire Mechanics Academy

What we know- Bruce Cunningham was a Senior Fire Mechanic at Santa Clara County Fire and an instructor at the CFMA.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our Senior Fire Mechanic Bruce Cunningham. Bruce suddenly passed away on 11/6/18 and leaves behind his wife Debby, daughter Kristin, son-in-law Patrick, son Kevin, daughter-in-law Elizabeth and 3 grandchildren. Bruce was an amazing mechanic. He had a great reputation within the department. Outside of work, he collected vintage hot rods and could fix just about anything on a rig. I remember it was a Sunday and we managed to get one of our type 6 engines stuck. We tried a few times, but became concerned that the tail end of the rig was going to keep pushing sideways and we'd end up putting the rig into a tree. Bruce ended up getting called out on his day off. He shows up in a shop truck way back down this steep, hill with a trail made of soft, dusty dirt that was just not allowing the tires to get any traction. I had tried twice to get it out. The other engineer tried twice to get it out. Bruce shows up and first try is able to pull this thing out. That's who Bruce was. Willing to give so much for the department and his fire family. His personality, work ethic, skill, wisdom and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
